MR&T Baton Rouge Front Phase 4

Protecting Downtown Baton Rouge, LA
Experience
Project Objective

To restrict and control Mississippi River seepage through the existing levee system provide the foundations for stop log flood protection control.

Project Overview

This project was located in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana on River Road just north of the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino and Hotel. Heavy traffic control was required by APC as work was done alongside downtown high-rises and commercial buildings. The limits of work were between Main Street and North Street parallel to the Canadian National Railroad. The project consisted of 11 I-wall monoliths installed on the top of the sheet pile and 1 stop log monolith base slab with stem walls. Installation of approx. 360 LF of PZ27 Steel Sheet Piles and installation of 6 each H14x73 x 79’ H-piles. The wall was built measuring 325’ long and 5’ tall. The stop logs were constructed out of aluminum and installed into a frame embedded into the base slab and stem wall. Scour protection was installed the length of the wall on the protected side of the wall and a new driveway placed up to the stop logs. Lastly, the area was graded, fertilized and the turf reestablished.
