The objective for this project was to install flood mitigation walls and additional drainage measures in efforts to improve equipment reliability during hurricane and other high-water events.
This critical infrastructure project consisted of concrete and sheet pile floodwalls, grading and drainage improvements, new grounding systems and fencing systems. Due to existing substation conditions and overhead lines, it was necessary to utilize specialized equipment during construction. A few examples included an excavator mounted vibratory hammer to install sheet piling as well as a custom concrete hopper which could be attached to the forks of a wheel loader to pour concrete walls in low overhead areas. Proper planning and innovation were key components in the safe and quality execution of this work.
